Hey Fashionista! What is happening? I'm so glad to be here with you for another round of shoe talk. Originally, I was going to talk to you about what happened at the trade show, but I don't have all the details yet. So, instead I will discuss a very important detail that every shoe designer must face in their career: rejection.
It takes about five styles or more to create a line of shoes. However, not all styles will be chosen. As in any creative field, you've gotta get used to some of your designs being rejected. Now, I know it's easier said than done, but believe me, there are some times good reason why the company doesn't think it will work. Most times it has to do with merchandising. Maybe, another line of shoes has a similiar color, pattern or style. Which means the shoe may not sell well- which is a valid point to consider. In that case, I reconsider my design at that point.
Or, there are times when you've gotta stand up for what you believe in ---even if it goes against the crowd. If your gut is saying "this will work!" and it won't stop until you listen to it, by all means say something! Will you always get your way when standing against the crowd? Not always, however, as a shoe designer you do have a large influence on the direction of your shoe line. If you think something will work, don't be afraid to speak your mind and own your voice, Fashionista.
Such a great message, Fashionista! Bravo to our shoe designer for being a strong and passionate designer! We hope you enjoyed this week's Follow the Journey of a Shoe Designer: Week Five. Stay tuned next week as we find out how our shoe designer's shoes did at the Tradeshow in NYC! We invite you to leave a comment below to say hey! or ask a question.
